Dragon Aisu

Wrestling Interview With British based Independant Wrestler and Former 3CW World Champion Dragon Aisu. Dragon Aisu was kind enough to sit down for an exclusive interview with Warned.net.

Interview Conducted By E L Farrell

Q1: Hello, To start, how about giving the fans your statistics.

I am Dragon Aisu, which means "Ice Dragon". My style of fighting in the ring is Ansatsuken, which combines various strikes and throws designed to do as much damage as possible. I was born in Calgary, Canada and moved over to England after just seventeen weeks. Now I live in Middlesbrough in the North East. I am 5'11 and 225 lbs.

Q2: When did you begin wrestling?

I started training just over three years ago and have been actively working for a little over two years. I trained with "Wildthing" Adam Brown in South Shields primarily, along with seminars from various people. I had been hooked watching wrestling since I was seven though and it was something I always said I would do.

Q3: What influenced your decision to become a wrestler?

After following it for so many years and it being my dream, I decided to do something about it. Bret Hart was a huge influence initially and always someone I looked up to and still do. I wanted to follow in his footsteps. The thing that finally made me go for it was actually the death of Curt Hennig. I was pretty bummed about that as he was one of my favourite wrestlers ever, and I started training the night after he died.

Q4:What other sports or hobbies do you have an interest in?

I love football, so I will be watching a lot of the World Cup. I am going to try and watch every game thats on TV, although it might be difficult with wrestling dates. I am into a lot of other things as well. I really love US sit-coms (Frasier, Friends, Scrubs, 3rd Rock From The Sun, etc) and comedy shows in general. I'm a massive horror film buff as well, especially the Japanese stuff. I have about 8 video games consoles as well, which get a lot of playing.

Q5:Who is your Dream opponent?

Without a doubt Bret Hart. My next dream opponent was Low Ki, and I was lucky enough to get to work with him last November. I had a lot of fun in that match and can't wait for us to square off again.

Q6: Describe a typical day of training for you. What do you focus on the most?

You have to vary things. Cardio is the most important so you don't blow in the match, which would be real bad. Generally working on a muscle a day is beneficial, it depends what you are going for. I play a lot of football as well, which is excellent for fitness.

Q7: What holds and moves are you best known for?

Quite a few... I started hitting the Canadian Destroyer about a year ago and people were shocked because someone my size was hitting a move like that, and it always got a great reaction. I have been using it since. The Half Nelson Suplex is something I use in tribute to Kenta Kobashi. Its an incredibly violent move and looks deadly. More recently I use the Chop Rush. I believe I have some of the hardest chops in the business and the chop rush is a series of them all together, fired off like a machine gun.

Q8: What's the worst you've been hurt in the ring?

I compressed my wrist which resulted in the tendon twisting and knotting last August. It still hasnt fully recovered and I have maybe 50% of movement in my left hand. It should fix in time and I am seeing a specialist now, but it bothers me everyday. If I knock it wrong the tendon will snap and I will lose movement in my thumb, which would mean I would need an operation to fix it. Hopefully it won't come to that, but I have to work through these things.

Q9: Where and What Promotions have you wrestled so far?

At last count I had wrestled for something like 30+ companies across Europe. The most notable of those are probably 1PW, FWA, DCW (Holland), 3CW and SWA. I have been as far South as Portsmouth and as far North as Scotland. I have wrestled in Ireland, Holland, Wales and pretty soon Germany as well. My ultimate goal is Japan and then America.

Q:10 You have wrestled for Middlesbrough based company Three Count Wrestling (3CW) and 1PW. What is the main differance between the two promotions?

You can't really compare the two as the mentalities and goals of the two are so different. 3CW is a more family orientated local-based product that features primarily talent from around the area as well as a handful of imports (ranging from NOAH guys to wrestlers from other UK companies). The balance is spot on though and the shows are incredibly passionate and offer something for everyone. 1PW on the other hand is a huge national and even international company. They feature guys from all over the World as well as the cream of British talent. I love wrestling for both though, I would consider them my home bases.

Q11: You Wrestled in Celtic Pro Wrestling in Ireland. What Was it like to Wrestle There?

Great fun. The Irish fans are easy to rile up and piss off, which works well for me as a heel. I enjoy going to different countries with different cultures and at the same time getting my name out more. They have some real good guys out there who I think will be really special, such as David Dunn and the Amazing Insano.

Q12:Who do you think is the best wrestler in British Wrestling Today?

Doug Williams. I don't need to explain that do I? Doug is one of the best wrestlers in the world, nevermind Britain. Everything he does is flawless.

Q13: What sort of reaction do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?

Most people say "Isn't it all fake?" as you might expect. The answer I give back varies depending on who asked the question. A lot of people are geniunely interested and think its very cool though. It beats the tedium of a 9-5 job for sure.

Q14: What is your most memorable professional moment?

Probably last month at 1PW Know Your Enemy. On the first night myself, Stevie Lynn and Pac had a real good triple-threat match that we were very happy with, but the next night was even better. We opened the show in front of nearly 2000 people in a 6-way scramble match, and the crowd popped like crazy for everything. Getting those kinds of reactions and responses from so many people was great. I think we showed a lot of people what the lesser known UK guys can really do.
