GaryCassidy Interview

Hi Gary, pleasure to talk with you. Tell us a bit about yourself?

Well, 21 years old from donegal ireland, now living in jordanstown (near belfast) for college. like the gym, eatin loads of food and obviously wrestling.

How did you get your first break in the business?

Went to a wrestling training club in bray called NWA Ireland and trained for 6 months and eventually started appearing on live events as part of a tag team called the cassidy brothers with my brother. he has since quit wrestling so i'm havin a solo run and its great craic.

You were trained by Fergal Devitt and Paul Tracey. What was it like to be trained by them?

Tough. we were put through our paces while learning how to get things done in the ring. it was great to be trained by them cause they know loads about the business and thats why they are where they are now (fergals in njpw and paul is the nwa british commonwealth champion).

What was your first match like?

Great fun. i got the livin daylights kicked out of me. was a tag match so i ended up bein in the ring for most of the time getting flogged by the finglas hooligans.

What have been your favorite matches or shows that you were involved in so far?

Jeasus where to start. My debut in dublin was awesome, aswell as my matches with fergal and paul, jon ryan in england, tj richter and eddie edwards in america, my home town nwa ireland tag title match was insane. Anytime you have a match its gonna be fun in some way.

What holds and moves are you best known for?

I do a swinging fisherman, and a sit-out death valley driver (called crashidy!)

Describe your Wrestling Gimmick?

I dont really have one of those over the top gimmics like doink the clown or sgt. slaughter, I just try my best to relate to the crowd and be the generic good lookin wrestler to win them over and thankfully it usually works so untill it doesnt i dont think i need a 'gimmick'

Describe a typical day of training for you. What do you focus on the most?

Well if i'm in the gym liftin weights I do different muscle groups each day, for example chest and biceps, legs and back, triceps and shoulders, and just do heavylifting to put on size then do some brief cardio to keep toned

Who are your favorite opponents, and also your friends in the business?

Favourite opponents? not sure, i usually have great matches with kev rocks, robbie morrissey, and aguila artios but there are people i've only wrestled once or twice and i wanna get a chance to lock up with them again, like eddie edwards, fergal devitt, tj richter, jon ryan, kid mikaze, sean south.....so hopefully i'll get to wrestle them again in the future.

As far as friends go, well friends in wrestling come and go. you never know who's out to get you cause there is so much prickin about and 'politics' in the business. i go through stages of getting along with people and then not even talking to them. but ofcourse there are people who i consider good friends and i never fall out with them properly, like justin bred, sean south, andy inch, del pc, kev rocks, and a small handful of others

You have wrestled for Celtic Pro Wrestling and NWA Irelnd. What is the main differance between the two?

NWA Ireland is a very old school, hard hitting, wrestling company

cpw has a very young charismatic roster, they draw bigger crowds more regularly as they have more of a sports entertainment product which appeals to kids more however i think the nwa ireland roster is a much more convincing pro wrestling roster, if the two company's merged i think irish wrestling would be alot better for the fans. hell i think all the irish company's should merge but realistically its never gonna happen cause they all put lots of work into their own companies and dont wanna put that work to waste.

Where and What Other Promotions have you wrestled so far?

NWA Ireland. NWA-UK Hammerlock. Fight Factory Pro Wrestling. Catch Wrestling North Germany. Top Rope Promotions. New England Championship Wrestling. Century Wrestling Alliance. Celtic Pro Wrestling. Premier British Wrestling. soon i'll be appearing for pro wrestling ulster and universal championship wrestling .

What promotions would you like to work for?

Pro wrestling noah, njpw, wwe, tna, roh, anywhere i can get work. I just wanna wrestle.

What titles have you held so far in your career?

None, I have a green grade in ring wrestling (submissions, take downs, throws....). I have my eyes on a few titles, namely the NWA Ireland heavyweight title, the Pro Wrestling Ulster heavyweight title, the NWA Ireland tag titles.

What's the worst you've been hurt in the ring?

A guy jumped off the top rope and stomped me in my chest, I couldnt breathe for ages, had trouble getting off the mat, chest was killing me, was in agony.

What is your most memorable professional moment in your career so far?

When I wrestled in my home town, got a standing ovation and NEARLY won the tag titles.

What would be your dream match?

Jonny saint, KENTA, lance storm....

Where do you hope to see yourself ten years from now?

Full time wrestling, and makin decent money, not just scraping by and drawing social welfare and calling myself a full time wrestler like loads of pricks in the business these days.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Besides lift weights, I like just takin it easy, hanging with my girlfriend, watchin wrestling, goin for the odd drink, ya da ya da ya da
