Interview With Johnny Flex

Wrestling Interview With Christian Wrestling Alliance (CWA) Wrestler Johnny Flex. Johnny Flex Is One Of The Top Stars in the CWA. Johnny was kind enough to sit down for an exclusive interview with Warned.net
Interview Conducted By E L Farrell
Q1: Hello, Johnny. To start, how about giving the fans your statistics?
6ft 1 225 lbs.
Q2: When did you begin wrestling?
I began wrestling in 1992. My first match was Dec. 12th of that year.
Q3: What influenced your decision to become a wrestler?
When I was a child my father would take me to the NWA wrestling shows Tuesday nights. I became fascinated by what I saw and knew someday I could do this.
Q4: You wrestle For Christian Wrestling Alliance (CWA). How did you become involved With The Promotion?
Actually I knew Roger Gleaton from working with him for another promotion EPW which folded. Once I saw how dedicated he was in starting and building a family friendly promotion I jumped on board. CWA is different than the many other promotions I worked for. You get the same quality action you might see on WWE or TNA minus the crude story lines .
Q5: You were once managed by female wrestling legend Mae Young. When and how did that Happen? What Was Mae Young Like To Work With?
When I was training at Moolahs I got word that Mae Young who lived in California, last relative had pasted away and she would becoming to live with Moolah. That is how we met. So long story short Mae became my manager for a while and basically I was like this mamas boy character being I was just 21 at the time and she was 70. She was so much fun to work with. Pretty cool just get the refs attention and let the old lady beat up my opponent. She is tough as nails and that is no work.
Q6: What other sports or hobbies do you have an interest in?
I really am not much into sports. As far hobbies I dont really have many. Most my time is consumed with spending time with my kids whenever possible or heading out to the wrestling school to work out. I am a computer junky I suppose when time allows. I spend time on the CWA message board interacting with fans.
Q7: Describe a typical day of training for you. What do you focus on the most?
I am mainly now starting to focus on learning more scientific moves . Most of my career was geared as a heel towards being entertaining, lots of charisma. There are a lot of good entertainers in wrestling ( Hulk Hogan an example ) that are not really what I call a good wrestler but yet made it based on there charisma and being very entertaining.
Q8: What holds and moves are you best known for?
One of my favorite moves I often do is a flying clothes line in which I extend my legs out like as in a drop kick so basically hangs my opponent. As a heal I often work the neck by driving my elbow into the opponents neck.
Q9: What's the worst you've been hurt in the ring?
I got split open by my eye due to an opponent shooting on me which later found out he was doing drugs. Recently I landed wrong taking a doomsday device which hurt my neck but lucky recovered without serious injury. I took it easy for a month or so to be on the safe side.
Q10: Where and What Promotions have you wrestled so far?
I wrestled for several indys back in the 90s. One of the better ones was working for former WWF Tag Team champions ½ lumberjacks ( 70s ) who ran Black Star Promotions at the Greenville Auditorium. I opened up the show on Monday Nights and met many legends who also were booked. That was probably the largest crowd I worked in front of between 3000 to 5000 in attendance on average.
Q11: What is Your Opinion on the WWE and TNA Promotions?
As far as the WWE, I say Vince has gone too far. No need for that kind of crude storylines and I believe he abuses and throws away good talent. As far as TNA I definitely am supportive and am glad TNA is going strong and gives fans an alternative. Also some TNA wrestlers will be appearing at future CWA shows.
Q12: Have You been Ever Contacted by the WWE?
Not directly. I did however through Moolah have an opportunity in the early years to work some dark matches for WWF at that time. I chose not to due to family reasons and I saw where Vince was heading and was very upset at the lack of respect Vince gave Mae Young putting her in a crude storyline with Mark Henry. I have kids and I couldnt see me being forced to do some of the things he makes his wrestlers do which in my opinion is totally distasteful.
Q13:What Wrestlers have been good to work with?
I had the opportunity on 3 occasions to work in matches against WCW/WWE star Chris Kanyon. He is very talented and also another talent I believe Vince let go to waste.
Q14:Who is your dream opponent?
To be honest I have never really even given that thought. I have always though thought it would be cool to work somehow with my favorite tag team The Mid Night Express. Ironically they will be on our July CWA show. Talk about marking out
Q15: What sort of reaction do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
I guess a lot of people still believe we are in the past where everyone had to be huge to make it as a wrestler. They take one look at me and say yeh right.
Q16: What is your most memorable professional moment?
The night I worked Chris Kanyon and he had me in a sleeper hold. Mae Young comes from behind and hits him in the head with a pocket book of some sort. . In the back Chris walks up to Mae with a lump on his head and says Mae what you hit me with? She grins opens up the bag and out falls glass perfume bottles.
Q17: Any last comments you'd like to make?
Thank you for publicity you have given CWA on your website Warned.net. Also to all the up coming wrestlers just starting out .. I hope to see the day when you have an alternative besides WWE to be able to wrestle and make a full time living without being subject to someone with the EGO of Vince McMahon.
