REMEMBERING KRONUS
John Kronus(George Caiazzo) who was known to many as the first ever big man to somersault off the top rope, was found dead in his girlfriends apartment in Laconia on July 18th,a week after he death of Chris Benoit,a man he knew well from his ecw days.Kronus who stood at 6`3 and weighed 273 pounds, passed on long before he was due, showing that wrestling takes its toll on the body. The death, which is not been treated as suspicious, has brought an untimely end to the life of a man who lived for two things:wrestling and looking after his nine year old son.Kronus had been planning to step into the squared circle again when he passed.
It was in the late 1980`s that Caiazzo met Perry Saturn, while working as a bouncer at Saturn`s nightclub.Saturn helped Kronus into the wrestling business by enrolling him for training in the famous school of Killer Kowalski.Kronus would go on to deputise in 1989. In the early nineties Saturn and Kronus fromed a tag team known as `the eliminators`.They made their debut in 1993 at a United States Wrestlin Association(USWA) house show.In 1994,they captured the USWA tag titles from Brian Christopher and Eddie Gilbert. They held the titles for over a month, before wrestling in Japan and eventually ending up at Extreme Championship Wrestling(ECW) in 1995.
It was clear from their ECW debut that they would be an unstoppable force. They won the ECW tag titles three times between 1996-97 beating all competitors, including household names such as the team of Rob Van Dam and Sabu, and The Dudleys. The latter would later take the belts off them as Saturn faced a lengthy lay off with injury, kronus defended the belts on his own but was undone.Later that year,Saturn moved onto pastures new,WCW,leaving Kronus to perform in the ECW singles division before linking up with New Jack.`The Gangstanators`,as they became known, won tag team gold that year. In1999,Kronus left ECW for two year stay in XPW,before retiring in 2002.
In 2005 he came out of retirement and made two appearances at the ECW reunion show,Hardcore Homecoming. After been found dead doctors say he died in his sleep from heart failure resulting from an enlarged heart. His finisher which was aptly called ``The Kronus Splash``,also refers to the legacy he has left behind him in both the wrestling industry and family life.
